Don't let the teddy bear collection in her office fool you. Or the ruffled curtains in the waiting room. Or her sculptured nails. Or anything feminine about Sherry Richardson. She not only knows cars, she knows how to run a profitable, successful repair facility.
When Richardson began the Marietta, GA business with former husband Alan Cox in 1983, he handled the technical side of things and she ran the business side. Although they divorced in 1988, they worked as partners until January 1996, when Richardson bought Cox's half of the business. The business has grown from one part time and two full time employees to nine full time employees including five mechanics, one parts manager, and three that work the counter and in the office (all three up front are women).
A SAT customer since 1993, Sherry upgraded to R.O. Writer from Smart Management Systems in 1998. A four terminal Windows 98 installation with two terminals on the front counter, one in parts, and one in the office, R.O. Writer is the heart of the business. When upgrading from DOS, Sherry was especially concerned that the transition was smooth and that her customers, vehicles, and inventory could be converted into R.O. Writer. SAT handled the turnkey installation and had the whole organization trained and operational within a few days.
